From education and advocacy to direct assistance, we are committed to addressing the challenges faced by older adults and their caregivers
To enhance the lives of millions of older adults, particularly those who are struggling and living in underserved communities, and educate them and their caregivers on issues of elder abuse, self-neglect, and ageism, promoting their well-being and ensuring their rights and dignity are protected.
To create a just and caring society where every individual, as they age, can live with dignity, purpose, and security.
To ensure that by 2050, all older adults in Nigeria and their caregivers are fully informed about the signs of elder abuse, self-neglect, and ageism, and are equipped with the knowledge, tools, and community-based systems needed to prevent and address these challenges with confidence and dignity.
Nigerians will be aged 60 years or over by 2050, making up over 10% of the total population.
Older adults made up 5.2% of the population in 2006,
but now account for approximately 6%, and the number keeps rising.
Only 12% of older adults in Nigeria have consistent access to healthcare services,
leaving the majority underserved, especially in rural areas.
An estimated 1 in 5 older Nigerians may experience elder abuse — including emotional, physical, or financial abuse — yet most cases go unreported due to stigma or silence.
At OMF, we aimed at improving the quality of life and rights protection for older persons.
To educate communities about elder abuse, self-neglect, and ageism through advocacy, public awareness campaigns, and workshops, ensuring that older adults are treated with dignity and respect.
To provide direct assistance to older adults in need by ensuring access to essential resources, social services, and programs that enhance their well-being and quality of life.
To conduct research on elder mistreatment and push for stronger policies and legal protections that safeguard the rights and welfare of older adults in Nigeria.
To foster meaningful connections between younger and older generations through community programs that promote mutual respect, inclusion, and a society where aging is embraced, not stigmatized.
To unite a coalition of organizations, community leaders, and policymakers focused on advancing the rights, dignity, and well-being of older adults, ensuring that their needs are prioritized in national development agendas and policies.
To educate communities about elder abuse, self-neglect, and ageism through advocacy, public awareness campaigns, and workshops, ensuring that older adults are treated with dignity and respect.
We focus on two key groups who play a vital role in the lives of older adults because Ageing is a journey we all share, and together, we can create a society where older adults are respected, valued, and celebrated.
Parents, grandparents, neighbors, and friends aged 60 and above, particularly those living in underserved communities. We stand with those who face challenges such as elder abuse, self-neglect, and ageism, ensuring they are not forgotten or overlooked.
Multigenerational family members, friends, and professionals who dedicate their time and energy to caring for older loved ones. Whether you are a family caregiver or a professional working in senior centers, community-based organizations, or social services, we are here to support you.
Help us provide resources and assistance to those in need.
